Reik at Radio City Music Hall

The trio from Mexicali in Baja California, was one of the many Mexican pop bands that broke out in the mid-2000s. With singles like “Que Vida La Mia” they provided anthems for the broken-hearted teens of the era singing about love and loss. In fact, they were one of the first Latin bands to write a song about being in the friend zone. That first mainstream album, titled Reik came with Latin Grammy nominations, signaling that they had indeed arrived. At their concerts, the band typically still plays some of their first songs to get people in that nostalgia that some of those aforementioned mid-2000s teens come to see them for!

When they start hitting the notes of “Amigos con Derechos,” though, you’ll know the concert’s going to be going up a notch from there. In that part of the lineup on June 1st, you can expect songs like “No Me Acostumbro.” These are from the more recent albums and collaborations that the band has had with the likes of Maluma or Wisin. Their shift from traditional Latin pop to a more electro-style of music is one of the reasons they’ve been able to stick around for so long. It hasn’t been like that for most of the other pop bands that arrived on the scene around the same time that they did.

Anyone who hasn’t been to Radio City Music Hall and is a fan of Reik can kill two birds with one stone here. A visit to this iconic venue is worth it almost, regardless of who you’re going to see. Every seat in the house gives you a great view. A unique fact about this venue is that there are four elevators that reach the stage. Don’t be surprised if the trio makes their grand entrance from the bottom up!

The fact that they’re touring the US with a brand-new show in 2024 should tell you everything you need to. They’re getting a chance to headline Radio City Music Hall because fans are still buying what these 3 selling. The first night of June promises to be quite the experience. Hopefully, they’ll start out with some of the slower heartbreak songs and then bump things up in the second half of the concert. If it’s the other way around, that’s going to be a sad walk to the subway from Radio City at the end of the night. Either way, it’s a date that fans should mark on their calendar. Who knows when these guys will be back in NYC!
