Barry Manilow’s success has been a benchmark in popular music ever since he first stepped into the music scene in 1964, when, instead of just arranging some songs for the musical adaptation of the melodrama “The Drunkard”, he composed an entire original score and started working as a commercial jingle writer and singer. It was, however, the 1974 release of the breakthrough single “Mandy” that exploded Barry Manilow onto the popular music charts. The single was the start of a string of hit albums such as the multi-platinum and multi-hit albums “Tryin’ to Get the Feeling”, “This One’s for You”, “Even Now”, and “One Voice”, as well as singles such as “Copacabana (At The Copa)”, “Can’t Smile Without You”, “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing”, and “I Write the Songs”. All in all, the Brooklyn boy’s incredible 60-year career spawned no less than 51 top-40 singles, including 12 number-one hits and 27 top-10 hits.
Barry Manilow also racked up a large number of awards, including two Emmy Awards, a Special Tony Award, three American Music Awards, a Grammy Award for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance, a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a 2002 induction into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, a Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award, and an honorary Clio Award.
It is undeniable: Barry Manilow is made for the stage, bringing the magic every single time with a touch of that old-school Vegas flair. The mellow master glides through the music with grace, his voice still more than capable of hitting fairly soaring heights, blowing the audience away with hits, hits, and more hits that will get stuck in your head and heart. Barry Manilow’s songs have memorable melodies, harmonic changes, and are filled with a range of emotions. They are intelligent and musical. He himself is personable and likable. He is showbiz, Las Vegas, cabaret, club, pop, rock and roll, and theatre – he is everything, and you owe it to yourself to catch him live in concert.
Wherever Barry Manilow sets his foot is the best place to be, and this October, it is the world’s largest indoor theatre – the epic 5,960-seat Radio City Music Hall. The venue is, just as Barry Manilow, larger than life and promises an unparalleled musical experience for young and old!
